Introduction to Handbuilding
Learn basic pinch, slab, and coil construction methods. Templates will be used to create functional forms. Bowls, mugs with handles, and serving platters are just a few of the demonstrated forms. Decorative treatments that will be taught include stamps, slips, and stains. Decal application will be taught and used on pieces created. No previous clay experience is required; this class is a prerequisite for all clay classes. Please do not miss the first class.
CLASS WILL BE HELD IN THE CERAMICS BUILDING
Masks must be worn at all times on campus and during classes; temperature checks are required before entering class/open studio. Clay can be purchased in the ceramics studio.

Ying Zhou graduated in 1983 from Jingdezhen Ceramics Institute, China and has completed residencies at the Clay Studio in Philadelphia, Pewabic Pottery in Detroit, and Red Logger Clay Art Center in Montana. She is a skilled potter who also designs and creates art brushes; she also enjoys teaching traditional Chinese brush painting techniques. She has been successful in teaching and developing the skills of a broad spectrum of students ranging from beginner to advanced levels. Ying has lectured and demonstrated her artistries in many different regions; she has exhibited her ceramic work at the Clay Studio in Philadelphia, Pewabic Art Gallery in Michigan, and the Toronto Art Exhibition.
