This workshop will explore both plein-air painting and the process of abstraction. During the mornings we will work outdoors in a traditional plein air approach—developing tonal relationships, searching for a convincing sense of space and light, and applying paint in different ways. In the afternoons we will work indoors on one canvas for the duration of the four days, using our morning paintings as source material for an ongoing and improvisational discovery of abstract painting. Risk and play will be encouraged!

Jordan Wolfson was born and raised in Los Angeles and graduated with an MFA from Yale School of Art in 1991. Exhibiting both nationally and internationally, Wolfson’s work is represented in permanent collections worldwide, including the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, the James T. Dyke Collection, and the Ballinglen Museum of Contemporary Art in Ireland. Wolfson has received numerous awards including the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, the Ingram Merrill Foundation Grant, and a Purchase Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters; he was a fellow at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, MA, and the Ballinglen Art Foundation in Ireland.
In his recurring explorations of form, space, and light, Wolfson has been investigating the relationships between perception, mark, and Consciousness. This has led to his experience of painting as a life practice and a means for fundamental understanding.
Jordan Wolfson currently lives in Longmont, Colorado, co-parenting his two daughters, and maintains a studio in North Boulder.

The Armory Art Center campus facilities include three buildings dedicated to art classes, a sculpture garden, and an interior tented courtyard.
The Armory Art Center provides art classes for students of all ages, exhibitions, art salons, lectures, and special events. Nearly 100 courses held in 12 state-of-the-art studios are offered including
- ceramics, photography & digital media, drawing, jewelry, painting, printmaking, textiles & fiber, and sculpture.
- Youth art classes and summer art camps are offered.
- Various exhibitions are hosted throughout the year in three galleries.
- The campus, located at 811 Park Place, West Palm Beach, at the south end of Howard Park, includes three buildings—the two former Palm Beach County National Guard Armory buildings and the Young Artists Studio Facility.
