About the Speaker: Christina Pettersson

CHRISTINA PETTERSSON was born in Stockholm, Sweden, but grew up in and currently lives in Miami, Florida. She is known for her large scale drawings, videos, sculptural installations and group performances, focusing on the history and environment of South Florida. Public programming and local collaborations have become central to her artistic practice, and have allowed Pettersson’s work to become a true engagement with the community, dissolving boundaries, utilizing the talents of a variety of people and organizations, and educating and delighting by innovative means, engaging the audience in an understanding of their own world on a deeper level.  Recent solo exhibitions in less traditional spaces like Everglades National Park and Miami International Airport reflect her lifelong passions and deep knowledge of her hometown and its complex ecosystems.

She is the recipient of a Knight Grant, Ellies Creator Award twice, Florida Cultural Consortium Fellowship thrice, is a Fulbright Scholar, and has attended residencies such as Everglades National Park, the historic Deering Estate, The Studios of Key West, Yaddo and Ucross. Her work is in the collections of the Perez Art Museum Miami, Museum of Contemporary Art, Miami, Bass Museum of Art, Margulies Collection and the Four Seasons Hotel, as well as nationally and internationally.  She is the 2021 ARTSail artist in residence, a nomadic research-based residency, collaborating with Friends of the Everglades to create an illustrated compendium of urgent water issues in South Florida. Her work will be included in “Elemental: Terra, Tide & Time,“ at The Frank C. Ortis Art Gallery, opening Feb 10 in Pembroke Pines.

About the Art Salons

The Art Salons are a unique gathering place for artists from throughout the South Florida region. They offer thoughtful presentations by influential professional artists whose artwork is being shown in museums and galleries in South Florida, nationally and internationally. Presenters show their work and talk about their influences, followed by stimulating discussions between the artist and the audience. These discussions cover the gamut of contemporary conceptual art practices, including cultural, socio/political, environmental, scientific, race and gender focused and aesthetic practices, the materials and techniques used to convey these ideas, and how our own work relates to the world of contemporary art. Art Salons also offer the opportunity to explore the practical side of being an artist, enhance professional development, share useful resources, and network with other artists. Art Salons have been facilitated by Elle Schorr, in conjunction with the ARMORY ART CENTER in West Palm Beach, since 2012. All are welcome to join in these timely explorations.

The Art Salons will now be presented virtually on Zoom! Tuesdays, once a month, from October to May from 7pm to 9pm. See the Armory calendar for dates or visit www.elleschorrphotography.com
