Printmaking at the Norton

July 29, 2021 - 10:00 am to 12:00 pm

In this workshop, Armory artist instructor Mark Cohen will explain the different types of printmaking in relation to works of art found in museum. Examples of printmaking in the extensive Norton Museum include Jacques Callot, Le Paterre de Nancy, a 1625 etching on paper; Jacob Lawrence, Schomberg Library, a silkscreen print on paper created in 1987; and Claes Oldenberg, Arch in the Form of a Screw, a lithograph created in 1976. This will be followed by a demonstration of monoprintmaking, a style that does not include the use of a printing press.

$5/Norton Members; $10/Non-members

Instructor’s Bio:

Mark Cohen is an award-winning graphic designer, marketing communications executive, teacher, painter, and printmaker. His subject matter utilizes contemporary and past iconic figures from all walks of life, including politics, popular culture, entertainment, and war and peace. Most of his paintings are strikingly large scale, monochromatic works. By using art to examine these issues, he hopes to remind viewers that we live in a world of continuing hateful biases that result in senseless killings around the world and that we should end hatred and promote understanding toward all people.
