Join Armory Artist in Residence, Jenn Kaplan at the Armory’s Ceramics Building for this session learning figurative hand-building in clay. All skill levels welcome. All materials will be provided.

Learn gestural figure sculpture through the use of paper armatures and stoneware clay. We will move quickly, embracing the material’s agency to create gesture. Slides will include contemporary and historical figures in the field. Please come with an open mind and pose ideas!
Instructor’s Bio:
Jenn Kaplan is the 2021-22 Ceramic Artist in Residence at the Amory Art Center. Recently, they earned their MFA from the University of Notre Dame while teaching undergraduate ceramic courses. After earning a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a concentration in ceramics, Jenn taught ceramics and painting throughout Chicago. They currently teach a variety of ceramic courses including figure sculpture, ceramic chemistry, wheel throwing and altering, urban gardening, and hand-building workshops for adults and young people.
Workshop Students: Please park in the north lot off of Parker, next to the Howard Park baseball field. The entrance to the ceramics building is on the side underneath the overhang, and a sign will be posted with an arrow that says “Ceramics & Sculpture Entrance.” There is also additional street parking along Lake Ave, as available.
