IN THE FLOWERS by Hayley Sheldon

Hayley’s work uses color, shape, and repetition to explore the coexistence of joy and sorrow, beauty and grief. Drawing from specific plants, flowers, and landscapes connected to different seasons of her life, she uses the natural world as a source of metaphor for experiences that are difficult to articulate. Come by and experience the reflection of an ongoing search for beauty, meaning, and tranquility while navigating the complexities of being human.

EXHIBITION | August 31  – October 24, 2026

The Language of Color: An Artist-to-Artist Gallery Walk with Hayley Sheldon & Renee Phillips
October 15th, 2026 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm

Join us for an engaging conversation and walk through our galleries led by exhibiting artists Hayley Sheldon and Renee Phillips. Moving together through the exhibitions, the artists will take turns asking each other questions about their work and exploring their different approaches to color, form, material, and abstraction. Rather than a traditional gallery talk, this event invites audiences to listen in as Sheldon and Phillips encounter each other’s work, exchange perspectives through an artist’s lens, and engage in a meaningful dialogue that offers insight into their distinct creative processes, ideas, and practices. There will also be time for questions from the audience during the evening.

The artists would like to be able to invite their peers and have something public to reference as soon as possible so we can promote the talk at the opening and beyond. Let me know once the event link is public so I can share with the artists so they can share with their networks.

CHROMATIC FREQUENCIES by Renee Phillips

Working with latex paint, spray paint and acrylic polymers, Phillips approaches each piece as an open dialogue in material investigation. Through experimentation, these everyday materials are pushed beyond their conventional uses, revealing distinct textures specific to each color, from wave like ripples to deep fissures and pooling paint drips. Chromatic Frequencies invites viewers to slow down, look closely, and experience color as a living presence.

THEME | HUMOROUS – THE ART OF LAUGHTER!

Laughter transcends boundaries, uniting diverse cultures, mending emotional scars, challenging societal norms, and illuminating life’s ironies in surprising ways. In the realm of art, humor serves a purpose beyond simple amusement; it ignites dialogue, eases the weightiest subjects, and adds a touch of brightness to our world.

The Armory Art Center is excited to announce HUMOUROUS, a juried exhibition from Florida-based artists that honors the cleverness, satire, and whimsical absurdity found in visual art. We encourage artists to express their creativity through humor, whether it be through playful charm, sharp wit, or exaggerated hilarity, showcasing the many delightful dimensions of laughter.
