Art Encounters: A Painting in One Session
Art Encounters is a series of one-session workshops that offer inspiring, hands-on introductions to a variety of artistic techniques, mediums, and creative processes for people of all experience levels.
In this engaging workshop taught by instructor Nancy Tart, participants will explore the fundamentals of color mixing, brushwork, composition, and expressive mark-making while creating a finished painting from start to finish.
Through demonstrations and guided instruction, you’ll discover how artists capture light, atmosphere, and energy with confidence and spontaneity. Perfect for beginners and experienced painters alike, this one-session workshop offers a fun and inspiring opportunity to loosen up, trust your instincts, and enjoy the creative process. Experience the excitement of creating a painting in a single session using the alla prima technique, a direct painting approach where layers are completed while the paint is still wet.

The Armory Art Center campus facilities include three buildings dedicated to art classes, a sculpture garden, and an interior tented courtyard.
The Armory Art Center provides art classes for students of all ages, exhibitions, art salons, lectures, and special events. Nearly 100 courses held in 12 state-of-the-art studios are offered including
- ceramics, photography & digital media, drawing, jewelry, painting, printmaking, textiles & fiber, and sculpture.
- Youth art classes and summer art camps are offered.
- Various exhibitions are hosted throughout the year in three galleries.
- The campus, located at 811 Park Place, West Palm Beach, at the south end of Howard Park, includes three buildings—the two former Palm Beach County National Guard Armory buildings and the Young Artists Studio Facility.
