Non Finito (Purposefully Unfinished) with Jim Graham
From nature to culture on a single surface! Non Finito is a classical painting technique that involves thoughtfully rendering limited areas of a composition, while intentionally leaving large portions of the canvas unfinished. When used effectively, the Non Finito technique allows representational subjects to slowly emerge from a tonal ground and then gradually dissipate back into the first layer of paint. In this two-day masterclass, Jim Graham will discuss the methods and philosophies that helped to define the tradition of the Non Finito, and explore why contemporary artists have found a renewed interest in this Renaissance subject.

Jim Graham is a South Florida based visual artist and educator whose work engages with the connections between landscape, identity, and climate as it specifically relates to lowland coastal communities. He is currently a studio art faculty member in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts & Letters at Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton. Graham was formerly a Visiting Assistant Professor of Drawing and Painting at the University of Arizona (2018-2022) and Painting Coordinator at Southeastern Louisiana University (2013-2017). Select recent solo and small-group exhibitions include the Rosemary Duffy Larson Gallery (Miami, FL), Stove Works Gallery (Chattanooga, TN), Greenleaf Gallery (Los Angeles), and The Cole Pratt Gallery (New Orleans). Articles related to these recent exhibitions have been published in the New Orleans Review, Art + Design Magazine, and LUXE Interiors and Design. Jim Graham received his MFA from the University of Illinois in Urbana Champaign (2013) and BFA from Florida State
University (2010).

The Armory Art Center campus facilities include three buildings dedicated to art classes, a sculpture garden, and an interior tented courtyard.
The Armory Art Center provides art classes for students of all ages, exhibitions, art salons, lectures, and special events. Nearly 100 courses held in 12 state-of-the-art studios are offered including
- ceramics, photography & digital media, drawing, jewelry, painting, printmaking, textiles & fiber, and sculpture.
- Youth art classes and summer art camps are offered.
- Various exhibitions are hosted throughout the year in three galleries.
- The campus, located at 811 Park Place, West Palm Beach, at the south end of Howard Park, includes three buildings—the two former Palm Beach County National Guard Armory buildings and the Young Artists Studio Facility.
