Painting a Sunlit Cottage…From Plein Air to Studio
Learn how to capture on canvas a charming sunlit cottage! Kathleen will teach you what to look for regarding compositional elements, a focal point and color harmony, including how to photograph the scene for your painting. Weather permitting, we will go to a charming old cottage in the Armory neighborhood to photograph it, and create sketches with color notes which will be brought back to the studio to paint from.
If inclement weather prohibits this Kathleen will provide photographs for you to paint from and teach you all the same elements that make for a captivating painting, filled with light. Kathleen Denis is known for capturing sun-drenched light in her contemporary-impressionistic style paintings, whether painting scenes of island life, old, charming towns, inviting gardens or adorable doggies. Presently living in Palm Beach Shores, she was born in Miami, grew up in Ft. Lauderdale, and spent much time in the Florida Keys and Bahamas, which greatly influenced her use of subject matter and colorful style.
Kathleen’s love of art began with lessons at the age of four, and graduated from the University of Miami, with a BFA degree in Graphic Design, while continuing to passionately study, paint in plein air and studio, teach, and win awards.
Her art is licensed by leading manufacturers found on numerous home décor products internationally, Prints can be purchased online, at HomeGoods and Bed, Bath & Beyond, while her original paintings are acquired in galleries, exhibits, plein air events, and on her website at www.kathleendenis.com.

The Armory Art Center campus facilities include three buildings dedicated to art classes, a sculpture garden, and an interior tented courtyard.
The Armory Art Center provides art classes for students of all ages, exhibitions, art salons, lectures, and special events. Nearly 100 courses held in 12 state-of-the-art studios are offered including
- ceramics, photography & digital media, drawing, jewelry, painting, printmaking, textiles & fiber, and sculpture.
- Youth art classes and summer art camps are offered.
- Various exhibitions are hosted throughout the year in three galleries.
- The campus, located at 811 Park Place, West Palm Beach, at the south end of Howard Park, includes three buildings—the two former Palm Beach County National Guard Armory buildings and the Young Artists Studio Facility.
